End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV)

Vehicles that have reached the end of their useful life and are disposed of as waste. ELVs are regulated under the End-of-Life Vehicles Regulations 2003. They must be depolluted (removal of fluids, batteries, and hazardous components) at Authorised Treatment Facilities before being classified as non-hazardous (16 01 06). Until depolluted, they are hazardous waste (16 01 04*).
