An executive agency within the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) that protects and enhances Northern Ireland's environment. NIEA is responsible for waste management licensing, regulating landfills and other waste facilities, and enforcing environmental legislation in Northern Ireland under the Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997.
