Waste remaining after separation of recyclable materials, typically disposed of in 'black bins' or sent to Energy from Waste facilities. Residual waste includes materials that cannot currently be recycled economically or technically, such as certain plastics, contaminated packaging, and composite materials. Under Simpler Recycling regulations, businesses must segregate dry recyclables and food waste, with residual waste being the remainder. Also called general waste or non-recyclable waste.
