Stabilisation (Waste Treatment)
4 related
A treatment process inducing chemical reactions between stabilising agents and contaminants to produce more chemically stable constituents with reduced mobility and toxicity. Often used in combination with solidification for contaminated soils and hazardous wastes. Stabilisation reduces leachability of contaminants through chemical binding, meeting Environment Agency requirements for site remediation and landfill pre-treatment. The UK Environment Agency published guidance on stabilisation/solidification in 2004.
