An Advanced Thermal Treatment (ATT) process using limited oxygen at temperatures above 700°C to convert waste into combustible synthesis gas (syngas) composed primarily of carbon monoxide and hydrogen. The syngas can generate heat and electricity, produce hydrogen, or manufacture transportation fuels and chemicals. Gasification offers environmental and economic benefits over conventional incineration but requires proven demonstration at scale for mixed municipal waste.
